Award-winning design and optimum functionality

CASIO has won the world's most important award for extraordinary industry design, the iF product design award 2013, for its IT-9000 multifunctional terminal.

The device, which was developed for the field sales service and to be used by public transport companies, features an integrated high-speed printer, 2D imager, digital camera and UMTS, providing everything that is needed for data entry and receipt creation when on the move.

The iF product design award is awarded by the International Forum Design in Hanover and is one of the most important industry design competitions in the world. Over 4352 products from 51 countries were presented to the in-ternational panel, which not only judged the submitted products on their de-sign and functionality, but also took other criteria such as quality, price and green standards into account. Thomas Uppenkamp, Head of Mobile Industrial Solutions at CASIO Europe GmbH in Norderstedt, is proud of the Japanese development team: "Our engineers have created a compact multifunctional device that sets the benchmark with its nipped-in housing and slightly rounded shape. The terminal has everything that is needed to enter and document data in the form of receipts at trade fairs, markets or when delivering products. Thanks to its efficient receipt printer, the terminal is also perfectly suited for processing ticket sales at events or in car parks and for use in public transport companies."

Security services can use GPS to document the exact position of a parking offence, for example, and photograph it using a digital camera. The receipt printer generates the parking ticket straight away. In the supply services sec-tor, consumption data can be recorded while on the move and printed out straight away. When used in service organisations, reports can be printed immediately on site and receipts can be issued for payments. Any orders for spare parts can be placed immediately using UMTS.

The Casio IT-9000 is available in ten standard designs and can be tailored to potential applications in a very cost-effective manner. When used in con-junction with an approved credit card terminal, it is even possible to pay for transactions with debit and credit cards.
The integrated printer is able to process varying widths of thermal papers. The stylish housing provides optimum protection of the inside of the printer against dust and rain when used outside. Another remarkable feature of the Casio IT-9000 is the bidirectional paper feed, which reduces printing times and printout lengths. A block code reader, which records paper usage via a code on the rear side of the ticket, provides security against ticket-tampering. An NFC card login guarantees that the device is safeguarded against unauthorised use.

The Casio IT-9000 features 256 MB RAM, 256 MB FROM and is supplied with Windows® Embedded CE 6.0, or alternatively with Windows® Embed-ded Handheld 6.5. Weighing around 625 grams, the multifunctional terminal sits well in your hand, making it ideal for use on the move. The terminal is splashproof and dustproof (IP54), and even works at temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius, while surviving undamaged when dropped from heights of up to 1.5 metres. The powerful lithium-ion rechargeable battery and the IT-9000 power management system allow operating times of around 12 hours.
