The C303CA represented a new kind of cellular phone, with a rugged styling never before seen in mobile phones. It offered both water resistance for use in the rain, and shock resistance to stand up to all kinds of daily abuse. The device had water and shock resistant features such as a round urethane bezel to cover the LCD, and a waterproof film protecting the receiver and microphone. Overall, the design had a rugged styling, and was basically a cellular phone version of the G-SHOCK watch. Furthermore, the device offered the latest functions, and supported a top transmission speed of 64 kbps, through high-speed packet transmission.

With this product release, CASIO entered the cellular phone market. Though a newcomer to the cellular phone category, the C303CA sported the rugged look that CASIO was known for, and was well received both as a heavy duty phone for use at construction and other industrial sites and a cool accessory for young people.
